History

SMARTEC was formed in 1996 as a privately owned company specialising in the financial self-service industry. Formed to address all the issues of payment applications at the user interface, the company has built its reputation on never settling for less than the best – this approach is visible in its state of the art technology, superior quality, high levels of service and comprehensive support network.

Smartec has been engaged in the R&D, manufacture, sales and service, of currency recognition and processing equipment for over 15 years and was the first to integrate biometric technology in payment applications in the world. Smartec’s operation of remote third party vending, pre-paid and account payment applications on various payment terminals (kiosks) throughout South Africa has cemented its position as an industry-leader.

In 2010 Smartec concluded an agreement with industry heavyweight GRG Banking Equipment (provider of currency recognition and processing equipment) to become its supplier of choice for the provision of hardware. This partnership enables Smartec to focus all of its attention on designing, developing and implementing SMART solutions, ensuring that it retains the competitive edge when it comes to providing the most innovative technology to its selected markets.
